The CGEA annual survey includes information on engineers, geologists, and environmental professionals at seven experience grades spanning entry-level professionals to managers and owners of small and large offices and companies. We have information on field personnel at four levels of experience and laboratory personnel at three experience grades. Hourly wages for clerical and administrative staff and management positions are presented in the survey.

The salary information is presented for four general regions of California. Zone 1 is the San Francisco Bay Area (Marin and Solano Counties, south to Monterey County); Zone 2 includes the south coastal counties of San Luis Obispo to Orange; Zone 3 is San Bernardino County south to San Diego and Imperial Counties; and, Zone 4 includes northern California, the Sierra Nevada, and Central Valley counties. We also combined the data to provide statewide averages and salary ranges.

The average salaries are presented in tabular format for the last six years, so that you can immediately see how salaries have changed in each category from year to year. The statewide averages also are presented as color bar graphs in the survey.

CGEA members who participated in the survey receive a complementary copy for their participation. The survey is available for sale to all others.
