Prevailing Wage

As you know CGEA has been on the front lines in the prevailing wage war for the last few years. Here is an interesting development of which you should be aware.

An "Important Notice to Awarding Bodies" from DIR dated January 3, 2003 creates a new craft "Building/ Construction Inspector and Field Soils and Material Tester" in Northern California.

The new craft designation, "Building/Construction Inspector and Field Soils and Material Tester", breaks down into six classifications. Each classification has a basic hourly rate as well as health and welfare, pension, vacation and holiday and training rates.

One of the most interesting developments with this "Important Notice" is that the wage rates have gone down. However, the most significant aspect of this "Important Notice" is that there is no indication that this is an apprenticeable craft.
