This year's conference garnered the best attendance numbers we have seen in many years, and we can attribute this to several factors, including an improving economy, an easily accessible location, and very high quality speakers. We also had a large number of single-day event attendees, numerous affiliate members attending and exhibiting, a record number of student attendees, and a larger than usual number of non-member attendees. Many thanks to Executive Director Marsha Myers for all the hard work she put in to make this event spectacular, as well as her assistant Laverna Hubbard, quietly working in the background. Also special thanks to our generous sponsors, to the Conference Committee members David Hamilton and Larry Taylor for putting together a first class agenda with great speakers, and to the entire CalGeo Board of Directors and Member Firms who make this event special. By: Scott David Rudd PMP - Senior Project Manager

The work of the technician is critical to the geotechnical community. Decisions are made every day by engineers with responsible charge that are based on the results of their work. They typically have the least amount of formal education but still need to maintain a level of professionalism on par with the licensed staff they represent. The attached article by Scott Rudd entitled "Advancing an Environment of Professionalism" encourages training and development that addresses potential problems.
