In February 1970, a group of soil and foundation engineers, representing firms in southern California, met at Roger Young Auditorium to discuss the status of the practice of soil engineering, and to determine if there was a need to form an organization to represent the business of soil and foundation engineering. In May 1971, the Soil and Foundation Engineers Association (SAFEA) was formed. It was in December of 1987 that the name was changed to the California Geotechnical Engineers Association (CGEA).
It was believed that, as a group, the stature of the profession could be improved through committee action, projects, studies, and implementation of ideas. This was to be an organization that was to implement the concepts and ideas developed by allied societies and organizations. We were not formed to research technical aspects, to be a social organization, or to duplicate the efforts of other organizations.
CGEA provides our members with:
- Up-to-date information pertaining to business, legislative and professional issues;
- Loss prevention techniques and training;
- A unified group with which to address industry-related issues; and
- Group buying power for services that will save your firm money.
